چکیده

The most commonly used proximal femoral fracture measures for predicting femur neck and intratrochanteric fractures are femoral axis length (FAL), hip axis length (HAL) and the derived Q angle measure (neck-shaft angle). The listed measures only consider the relationship between the diaphysis and the femoral neck but not also between the femoral head and neck. These measures assume the femoral head as an ordinary extension of the neck with an irrelevant position of the head's centre in relation to the neck axis. Anatomical research has shown that the quotient of the superior and inferior offsets (SOS/IOS) in human anatomy is different than 1 and that the gamma and delta angles are not equal. These controversies, the mismatch of the definition for measures used in anticipating proximal femur fractures with anatomical reality, have not yet been listed in literature

Effects of Hip Geometry on Fracture Patterns of Proximal Femur

Background: Some studies have previously shown that geometry of proximal femur can affect the probability of fracture and type of fracture. It happens since the geometry of the proximal femur determines how a force is applied to its different parts. In this study, we have compared proximal femur’s geometric characteristics in femoral neck (FNF), intertrochanteric (ITF) and Subtrochanteric (ST...

In-Hospital Outcomes after Hemiarthroplasty versus Total Hip Arthroplasty for Isolated Femoral Neck Fractures

Background:    Previous studies suggest total hip arthroplasty may have some benefits compared to hemi-arthroplasty for displaced intracapsular femoral neck fractures in patients more than 60 years of age. The primary research question of our study was whether in-hospital adverse events, post-operative length of stay (LOS) and mortality in patients 60 year of age or older differed between tot...

بررسی بار اقتصادی شکستگی هیپ(ناحیه لگن استخوانی) در بیماران مراجعه کننده به بخش ارتوپدی بیمارستان سینا

Background & Objective: Osteoprosis is the most frequent underlying cause of femoral neck fractures in the eldery. These fractures weigh heavily on health care budgets. An accurate and exhaustive evaluation of these costs would be a major contribution to health economic studies evaluating the efficiency of screening and preventive strategies. However, in Iran, very little data on the financ...

Proximal Femoral Geometry as Fracture Risk Factor in Female Patients with Osteoporotic Hip Fracture

BACKGROUND Proximal femoral geometry may be a risk factor of osteoporotic hip fractures. However, there existed great differences among studies depending on race, sex and age of subjects. The purpose of the present study is to analyze proximal femoral geometry and bone mineral density (BMD) in the osteoporotic hip fracture patients. Furthermore, we investigated proximal femoral geometric parame...

Comparing Therapeutic Outcomes of Dynamic Hip Screw and Multiple Cannulated Screws as Internal Fixation in Femoral Neck Fractures

Background and purpose: Femoral neck fracture is associated with a high rate of side effects, especially in young people, who are usually affected by severe energy shocks. Results after injury depend on some factors, including displacement, fragility, bleeding rate, proper placement, and stable and strong fixation. The aim of this study was to compare dynamic hip screw (DHS) or multiple cannula...
